A Live Chess Challenge is being hosted in Poppies Books in Howick’s main street from 10.30am on Saturday July 16.
This event will involve six blitz chess matches between New Zealand Women’s Chess Champion Vyanla Punsalan, 17, and New Zealand Girls’ Chess Champion Isabelle Ning, 12. Both players will likely be representing New Zealand at the World Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India, from July 28-August 10.
It’s a great opportunity for budding chess enthusiasts to watch champions at play. The event is sponsored by the Howick-Pakuranga Chess Club, the Howick Village Business Association and Chess Enterprises NZ.
