Celebrating everything maths was how students across the school at Bucklands Beach Primary recently spent Maths Week 2022.

The theme of Maths Week 2022 @BBPS was ‘maths is everywhere’ and the students spent the week learning to find maths across the curriculum.

As well as taking part in the activities online through the national Maths Week website, they spent time exploring the world of maths.

Each day each class displayed a maths challenge in their classroom window. The children then had the opportunity to solve as many of these challenges as they wanted.

As the week went on, the challenges were created by the students as part of the Maths Week activities.

Names of winners were drawn daily and announced on the daily notices.

Other across the curriculum activities included reading picture books related to maths, researching famous mathematicians and writing about them and creating art work with a maths focus.

Some classes took photos of the school environment and then linked maths questions to the photos for others to solve.

These included many aspects of maths, for example, looking for patterns and using their measurement knowledge to observe.

Children designed maths problem posters and some classes created both board games and maths games for others to play.

All of these activities helped foster a positive attitude towards maths and encouraged the children to see that maths is everywhere if only we look for it.
