Badminton success for Macleans

Sixteen Macleans College premier and A grade badminton players participated in the College Sport Individuals and Doubles Championship at Gillies Avenue in Newmarket.

Macleans College achieved second in the junior girls’ doubles, first and third in the junior boys’ doubles and second in the senior doubles girls’ and boys’.

The day was filled with intense competition between the players from schools located all around Auckland.

Rosie Yang (Kupe House) and Josephine Zhao (Mansfield) placed first and Melody Cai (Kupe) and Alicia Cao (Upham) second in the junior girls’ doubles.

The boys also had a very successful run in the junior boys’ doubles with Darren Liu (Te Kanawa) and Bryan Shi (Hillary) placing first and Wesley Lau (Kupe) and Alex Liu (Upham) placing third.

Caroline Chen (Batten), Naomi Huang (Kupe), Eric Lu (Rutherford) and Joseph Wu (Te Kanawa) all placed second in the senior doubles girls’ and boys’ categories respectively.

“This was a great preparation for the upcoming New Zealand Secondary School Championships beginning at the end of August,” the school said.

“Well done to Melody Cai, Alicia Cao, Caroline Chen, Naomi Huang, Wesley Lau, Billy Li (Snell), Jason Li (Snell), Kylin Li (Rutherford), Alex Liu, Darren Liu, Eric Lu, Bryan Shi, Joseph Wu, Max Wu (Snell), Rosie Yang and Josephine Zhao.”
