Bunnings Warehouse worker stabbed during armed incident

A man allegedly armed with a knife entered the Botany Bunnings Warehouse store on Thursday night and demanded money from a worker.

A worker at the Bunnings Warehouse store in Botany was injured during an alleged robbery attempt on Thursday night.

Counties Manukau Police detective inspector Chris Barry says police inquiries into the incident, which happened at the business in Ti Rakau Drive at about 6pm, are ongoing.

“A male has entered the store armed with a knife and stabbed a Bunnings staff member before demanding money,” Barry says.

“Another worker has quickly intervened and apprehended the male until police arrived.

“The victim was taken to Middlemore Hospital and is in a stable condition.

“The alleged offender is in police custody at Middlemore Hospital, also in a stable condition.

“Our investigation is ongoing and charges will be laid.”

Bunnings director NZ and HR Jacqui Coombes says the company is “working closely” with police after the incident at the Botany store.

“Our absolute priority is the welfare of all our team members involved.

“We thank our team for the way they worked together to handle a very challenging situation.”
