A PAKURANGA chiropractor was the envy of every girl of the 1980s last week when she got hands on a member of international pop act Duran Duran.
“His yoga teacher in Los Angeles had told him about a form of treatment, Network Spinal Analysis, and that he just had to try it,” says Dr Glucina-Russell, a specialist in the technique.
“He said he’d heard I was the best person to talk to in New Zealand about it and since he was here performing, he rang and wanted an appointment for Tuesday.”
She says it was a pleasant surprise for Taylor to ring himself – not the behaviour one would expect of an international pop star.
Her impression of him was cemented when he rang back when he said he would and on route to the appointment, called personally to apologise for running five minutes late because he was stuck in Auckland’s notorious traffic.
“So he came in, just like any other patient, had a consultation and I then adjusted him and he was on his way,” Dr Glucina-Russell says.
“I have to honestly say that he was a really lovely guy, really wonderful and just had a lot of integrity.”
Far from starstruck, she was well aware who her famous client was and says her sister was a big fan of Duran Duran growing up.
In true rock star style, Taylor invited Dr Glucina-Russell to Duran Duran’s concert at the Vector Arena in Auckland, where she briefly met the other members of the band.
“About 15 minutes before he went on stage, I gave adjusted him again and on he went.”
Network Spinal Analysis (NSA) is a non-invasive technique which makes spinal and neurological corrections using fingertips with very little pressure.
Dr Glucina-Russell says it is suitable for anyone from babies to the elderly and that patients often notice a difference immediately.
“After his treatment, John Taylor said he had a feeling of euphoria and felt incredibly relaxed and refreshed.”
