The pre-loved clothing boutique operated by the Cancer Society in Rices Mall Howick, is set to close.

The store is popular with op-shoppers and forms part of a trio of charity shops in the arcade.

Paul Hayes, marketing and communications manager Cancer Society Auckland/Northland said the Cancer Society had reviewed its retail strategy earlier this year, considering among other options, expanding the number of Pre-loved Boutique stores across Auckland.

In a statement he said, “The Cancer Society Auckland/Northland never had the intention of owning one shop, Howick was always meant to be the precursor to expansion. After careful consideration and thorough evaluation CSAN is not going pursue a retail strategy. This decision will result in closing the existing shop in Howick at the end of the lease on Oct 31st, 2019.

“Expansion of our existing shop in Howick to more shops has been fully explored from every angle and while everyone has certainly put in their best efforts, it is still not financially the best option for the organisation. As a result, Cancer Society Auckland/Northland is not pursuing a proposed retail expansion.”

CSAN will now focus on the numerous plans coming out of a recent National Strategic Review, he said, and the recently announced national Cancer Action Plan.

“We wish to thank everyone that has contributed to the retail shop in Howick over the past few years. The volunteers and staff at the shop in Howick have done a fantastic job and we really appreciate all they have done to help us fully explore this option for the Society.”
