UPDATES

From this week we kick off a new Let’s Talk Local column that will keep you updated with  what is happening in the Howick Ward

Playground news: The renewal of Raphoe Playground in Flat Bush has been completed. This includes the extension and installation of new playground equipment and fitness stations, new seats, and a picnic table.

Preparing for the winter sports season. Late last year, the local board prioritised the renewal of William Green Sports Park. This project has now been completed in time for increased use over the winter. All fencing mesh has been fixed and repaired, height extensions are complete, impact curtains have been installed and the gates have been replaced.

Howick’s second “Movies in Parks” event for 2020 is on Saturday March 14. The whole family can enjoy a free showing of ‘Aladdin’ in Lloyd Elsmore Park, sponsored by Howick Local Board. Fun and pre-movie entertainment commences from 5.40pm and the movie will start at sunset. Bring a picnic, or purchase food from one of the food stalls.

Howick Local Board is delivering for our community: They have created between 10 and 15 kilometres of the walking and cycling network in the Highbrook and Burswood areas and five pedestrian bridges along Cascades Walkway have recently been renewed.

Did you know you can walk or cycle from Meadowlands all the way to Burswood on this great shared pathway?

In the forthcoming financial year, the local board will continue, amongst many other projects, to implement the Howick Village Centre Plan, the Walking and Cycling Network Plan and will investigate community safety initiatives.

Your feedback is required. You can help the Howick Local Board develop their next Howick Local Board Plan. Over the next few weeks, local board members and council staff will be out and about at meetings and events, asking locals what is important to them in their community. They will welcome your views on how they are tracking and whether they are moving in the right direction.
