Orchid lovers are excited about the return of the Howick Orchid Society Spring Show that is set to dazzle on Saturday at the Fencible Lounge (next to Howick Library).
The Howick Orchid Society has been around for 50 years and is a member of the New Zealand Orchid Society.
Sandra Moore, one of the society’s longest-serving members, is looking forward to the stunning display of orchids on show this weekend.
The winning Orchidaceae is decided by public vote and is crowned best plant in show.
Orchidaceae are a diverse and widespread family of flowering plants with blooms that are often colourful and fragrant, commonly known as the orchid family.
“There will be four tables set up with plants on sale to attendees,” says Moore.
The show is attended by amateur and professional orchid enthusiasts.
Activities also include a raffle, and commercial growers will be on hand to provide useful tips and advice on how to get orchids to show-level.
Fencible Lounge, Uxbridge Road, Saturday, October 19, 9am-4pm.
