Emergency services are this afternoon responding to a traffic incident in Howick.

Numerous sirens could be heard from the Times Newspapers’ office in Howick Village at about 3pm today, December 13.

Photos posted to social media show multiple police cars, fire trucks and St John Ambulance vehicles at the intersection of Ridge Road and Bleakhouse Road.

One person advised motorists to avoid Ridge Road as traffic is backing up along it.

At 4pm a police spokesperson told the Times: “Emergency services are in attendance at a crash involving a motorcycle in Howick this afternoon.

“Police had signalled for the rider to stop on Bleakhouse Road, around 2.50pm, however it failed to do so and fled from police before crashing a short time later.
