Lucy Ainsley, executive director of the NZ Polo Open said the event is the country’s biggest and most popular polo tournament.

Established in 1977, the NZ Polo Open is hosted by Auckland Polo Club and attracts a crowd of up to 5000.

“It will be a performance of high-goal polo like no other, providing guests with an ultimate polo experience,” said Ainsley.

“With plenty of horsepower on and off the field, the February event will be an exhilarating spectacle of competitive polo, style, and hospitality.”

Six polo teams will compete for the 2023 NZ Polo Open trophy. Professional polo players will arrive from around the world including the UK, Argentina, and Australia to compete in the tournament.

The NZ Polo Open tournament begins on Tuesday, February 14 and teams compete throughout the week to gain a place at the NZ Polo Open final held on Sunday, February 19 at Fisher Field, Auckland Polo Club, Clevedon.

“It is always an exciting and fun atmosphere with champagne on the lawn, stomping of the divots, thundering of hooves and stylishly-dressed spectators,” said Ainsley.

“The highly anticipated ‘Fashion at the Polo’ is an event highlight with prizes for Best Dressed Lady, Gentleman and, new for this year, A People’s Choice Award.”
