Countdown to 175th anniversary

The countdown is now down to 66 days marking the 175th anniversary of the settlers’ landing at Howick Beach on Saturday, November 12.

This week with the delivery of 175 celebration bunting, we will see the decorations raised in shops, cafes and businesses around Howick.

This weekend there are two special events on to celebrate the 175 year anniversary.

Saturday, September 10

8am to 12.30pm at Fencible Walk Park (110 Picton Street), opposite the Saturday morning markets. Come along and view British and European classics, meet the owners and enjoy our Kiwi motoring heritage (weather permitting).

Live Day @ Howick Historical Village
Buzzing about with Bees and Pollinators. Spring has sprung at the Howick Historical Village! Come along to this Live Day to experience the gardens filled with colour and busy bees.

As part of Bee Aware Month, visitors can learn about the vital role of bees and other pollinators and how to create eco-friendly green spaces for them to thrive in.
Meet our very own village bees in a talk with local beekeeper Corban at 1.30pm.

The council’s Compost Collective will also be on site, presenting the run-down on traditional composting, worm-farming and bokashi in a free two-hour workshop at 10am.

Admission prices: adults $18, students/seniors $14, children $10, children under 5, members & annual pass holders – free entry.
