New Zealand’s independent voice for nature, Forest and Bird is this year celebrating its centenary.

In March 1923, Captain Ernest ‘Val’ Sanderson was the inspiration for the organisation’s establishment.

To celebrate the occasion at the South Auckland Forest and Bird annual potluck dinner, three of its longest-serving members – Barbara Garden, Win Miskelly and Graham Falla – participated in the cutting of the cake.

This occasion was followed by a talk on the visit to the sub-Antarctic Islands by Sally Barclay.

The branch hosts a talk on the second Monday of the month alternating between Howick and Manurewa.
