Point View School took out first and third place out of 17 schools competing in the Writer’s Quiz Competition, and there were 32 teams. Competition was fierce.

Point View School’s A team has won the Interschool Writer’s Quiz Competition and its B team came third-equal.

At the end of Term 1, 22 year 6 students were invited to join the Writer’s Quiz group.

The goal was to read assigned books with a view to enter the inter school competition held each year at Baverstock Oaks School.

“We all had to read 10 books and write questions about the books at home, and we met with Ms Groot every Monday morning to switch books,” said students Manayah and Rio.

“You had to read one book every week or you would be eliminated if you couldn’t keep up. Some people fell off the pace but most people finished reading their books by the beginning of Term 3.

“There were 14 students who managed to read all 10 books, so we had to do a test set by Ms Meta Groot. Only the top six scorers would get into the interschool team and represent Point View at the competition.

“The top six scorers were HanSeo, Ella, Joanna, Manayah, Shenali and Rio.

“Each team was composed of three students.  There were questions on the books we had been assigned that were read out and we had to answer them on our team’s piece of paper. We also heard quotes from the books and had to identify which book they came from.

“There were 17 schools, and there were 32 teams. Competition was fierce.

“The quotes were quite tricky, but we did our best. Throughout the competition, the host gave out spot prizes to different schools,” the students said.

“We took away two books for Point View School as spot prizes. They gave us leaderboard updates after each round, and both Point View teams were doing quite well throughout the whole competition.”

At the end of the competition, Point View B Team came 3rd-equal in the competition and Point View A Team won. The A team received a voucher and a free book, and proudly took home the wooden book trophy.

“A huge thank you to Ms Groot for running the Writer’s Quiz programme,” Point View School said.

“Also, thank you to all the parents for supporting your child throughout their Writer’s Quiz journey, and the teachers who read the books and wrote questions for the students to revise.”
