CONCERNED Glenmore Rd residents contacted the Times after a bus shelter on the street was vandalised again.
“Why don’t they put in a metal mesh like they have around the corner on Pakuranga Highway?” ask the residents.
They’ve approached shelter providers Adshel on more than one occasion, but have had no luck.
The Times has contacted Adshel to get some answers.
“I can confirm that we are planning on replacing the glass on that shelter in Glenmore Rd with mesh panels,” says John Burt, Adshel’s commercial general manager.
“This replacement will happen in the near future. “Adshel has a contract with the Manukau City Council and has provided over 140 bus shelters at no cost to the council or ratepayers,” says Mr Burt.
“Adshel has the exclusive right to advertise on some of the street furniture. The supply, installation and maintenance of that street furniture are essentially paid for by the advertising.
“The council also receives a percentage of the revenue generated, which is then available for investment back into the community,” he says.
Vandalism is a “significant issue” for Adshel, says Mr Burt, and he encourages anyone who sees someone vandalising a bus shelter to call the police.
