Two men were arrested in Shamrock Park this morning after being caught in the act during a burglary.

Police quickly responded to the residential property on Kerridge Close when the report was made at around 7.30am.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dean Batey says it was reported that two men were inside the house, with at least one occupant who was home at the time.

“Our staff quickly responded to this incident and, as they arrived in the area, two men were seen fleeing from the house,” Batey says.

“This pair didn’t get very far, with the Eagle helicopter, a dog unit and other ground staff responding to this incident.”

Police took both men into custody at a nearby property.

A 51-year-old man has been charged with two counts of burglary.

The second man, aged 21, had a warrant for his arrest and has also been charged with burglary.

Both men will be held in custody to appear in the Manukau District Court.

“It is also fortunate we have recovered stolen property that was taken, so this has been returned to its owner,” Batey says.

“Police would like to thank the member of the public who called 111 straight away to report this incident so we could respond.

“It’s reminder for everyone in the community to report suspicious behaviour to police as soon as possible.”
