In their mid-week double header in front of the Sky Sport cameras, the Howick Hornets Rugby League Football Club had mixed results.

The club’s premier men played the curtain raiser at North Harbour Stadium against an on-form Papakura side.

Despite four unconverted tries from Howick’s Josiah Fatialofa, Kaylise Fatialofa, Alan Niulevu and Jarney Proctor, the game got away from the men. Full time score 16-25.

The men remain in third place on the Fox Memorial Premiership ladder and will look to bounce back this weekend in their away match against the Otahuhu Leopards.

It was a different story on Wednesday night for the Howick Hornets Premier Women (‘Nets) as they faced the Manurewa Marlins in front of the cameras.

After a strong start, the ‘Nets went into the sheds at half-time ahead thanks to a brace of tries from Sam Curtis and another from Zayde Sarah-Baldwin.

Manurewa forged a second-half comeback to lock the scores up at 18-18 with 10 minutes to play.

It was Cilia-Marie Po’e-Tofaeono that snatched away the game for the ‘Nets though with a 25-metre run, inclusive of beating four defenders, resulted in another try for the prop.

The ‘Nets sit clear in third place of the Women’s premiership and return to Paparoa Park this weekend where they play host to City.
