The Botany electorate, for which Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is the Member of Parliament, has been extended further eastward as part of final electorate boundary changes announced by the Representation Commission today Friday.
Botany now includes the growing Pohutukawa Coast suburbs of Beachlands and Maraetai, and also takes in Whitford and Duder Regional Park, in the electoral boundary redrawing.
“Various electorates in southeast Auckland are reconfigured due to population growth,” says the Representation Commission.
“Both Pakuranga and Botany expand eastwards.”
The old boundary between the Pakuranga and Botany electorates was at the suburb of Cockle Bay, which now moves into Pakuranga.
“Takanini is a fast-growing area that was significantly over quota, so some population is moved from that electorate into neighbouring electorates, particularly Botany and Papakura.”
Takanini’s boundary with Botany is moved northwards to Ormiston Road.
The electorate of Panmure-Ōtāhuhu is shifting south and east and being renamed Ōtāhuhu, the commission says.
The boundary of Takanini and Ōtāhuhu is now Chapel Road.

The commission released the final electorate boundaries and names for the next general election, due next year, late this morning.
“Existing electorate boundaries have been maintained where possible. Nineteen electorates are unchanged, and the boundaries of 49 general and three Māori electorates have been adjusted,” it says.
The main areas of change are in Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Christchurch, and the lower North Island, where electorate boundaries have been reconfigured to include one fewer electorate.
“Most of the boundary changes were signalled in the proposed electorates report published in March 2025, but we have made some amendments to those proposals following public consultation,” says Judge Kevin Kelly, chair of the Representation Commission.
There were 717 written submissions on the proposed boundaries and public hearings were held in June.
“We were heartened that so many people took an active interest in this important work. The many public contributions were invaluable,” says Judge Kelly.
“Overall, we consider we have struck the appropriate balance so that each electorate has about the same number of people as is required of us under the Electoral Act.”
