It is not very often that you see a roomful of people having breakfast with hearing protectors on.

Around 30 people gathered at The Lounge on Friday morning for a breakfast hosted by Chris and Tony Bull, the creative couple behind the boutique event centre in Howick.

As a part of the Silent Leadership Challenge hosted by The National Foundation for the Deaf, the breakfast was hosted for companies including Bay Audiology Howick, Total Focus, Echo Barrier, Supply Force, Bull Electrical and Spillers Hammer Hardware that participated in the challenge.

People struggled a bit to savour the lovely brekkie and have a conversation across the table with the hearing protectors on.

Lisa Talbot, project coordinator of the Silent Leadership Challenge for corporate and community leaders, acknowledged the role that local companies played in raising funds, including the Times newspaper that raising awareness for the hearing impaired with a series of articles.

She was happy that after having read the articles in the Times<ITALICS>, individuals called to take on the Silent Leadership Challenge.

Funds raised will help sustain The National Foundation for the Deaf’s advocacy, prevention and support work.
