It’s community art that is both symbolic and significant.

Funded by the Howick Local Board, two accomplished artists -Frith Jenkins and Jane Dale are putting finishing touches on the mosaic mural that they are going to gift Howick RSA on Anzac Day.

The beautiful artwork skilfully pieced together with coloured glass was inspired by the controversy surrounding Stockade Hill and the significant role it plays on Anzac Day.

“The mosaic in hues of blue and green features a cenotaph standing tall against the blue skies, contrasted by the brown trunks of trees and the white crosses on Stockade Hill.

“It will be placed on the outside of the RSA building for everyone to enjoy,” says Mrs Jenkins, a long time Howick resident and owner of Howick Village Optometrists.

“We are lucky to acquire the old Save the Children shop in Howick Village for six months, where Jane and I work on the mosaic.

“We would like to acknowledge the Howick Local Board and Howick Town Centre manager Jenny Foster for giving us this space to work from,” she says.

An artist for more than 20 years, Mrs Jenkins says that Artist Frith Jenkins puts finishing touches to the mosaic mural that will be she always wanted to create
presented to Howick RSA.
