Your maths is out

Do the maths Simeon (Brown, MP for Pakuranga) [‘Share your opinion on road safety’, Times, March 30].

There may be reasons not to reduce the speed limit but arguing that we will spend less time with the family at the end of the day is not one of them.

If we could do 60km/h up the highway at rush hour with green lights all the way we’d get home 90 seconds earlier than the reduced speed limit would allow. Big deal.

In practice it will make no difference.
