MP Christopher Luxon [Leader of the Opposition, Botany MP] visited Moscow and concluded socialism does not work – a couple he spoke to showed him “socialism had abjectly failed and created misery”.

The problem in Russia is not socialism, Mr Luxon, it’s repression under a dictator – we are all witnessing the atrocities and genocide in Ukraine. Nothing in common with our Labour Party. Politics do not seem to be your forte, Mr Luxon.

World leaders are not reducing tax. The financial burden of the virus and the war in Europe is too high. But Mr Luxon thinks he knows better.

Incidentally, propping up private businesses is socialism, Mr Luxon. Are you going to demand the billions be repaid?

The housing crisis will deepen – residential buyers unable to compete with investors who can claim tax relief on their loans. Are you keeping the 39 per cent tax bracket? A firm reply, please.

Mr Luxon will remove the Auckland regional fuel tax – revenue needed for the Eastern Busway. Auckland mayor [Phil Goff] said: “If we lose the hundreds of millions of dollars from the regional fuel tax we will need to stop the project going ahead, or we will need to put a 20 per cent rate increase in”.

Under National, the low-income earners will get next to nothing.
