A tornado struck businesses in Allens Rd East Tamaki around 9am on Saturday causing substantial damage to Elite Bathroomware and neighbouring Fyfe Kitchens.
Caused by unusually warm and humid air mixing with cold, the tornado ripped out the whole front of the Elite building leaving an exposed shell.
The Times was sent a video of the impending destruction of the tornado by Josh, an apprentice at Autoworks Service & Tyre on Kerwyn Ave.
In nearby Otara, a woman gave birth in an ambulance that was hit by flying debris from a shed, and was transferred in another ambulance in a moderate condition in Middlemore. Mother and baby are safe and well.
