Three people have been arrested in east Auckland as part a police investigation into a series of burglaries.

Counties Manukau East Police area prevention manager, Inspector Rakana Cook, says the trio are assisting police with enquiries into a report of several burglaries in the Howick area this morning, July 11.

“Our enquiries are still in the very early stages.

“However, it appears a group of people have broken into several homes and taken a number of items.

“Police were alerted after a vehicle was stolen from one of the properties.

“Officers then located the vehicle in Highland Park and three people were arrested.

“Police are still working to establish the circumstances around these events, so at this point no further details are available.”

A member of the public, who doesn’t want to be identified, says she saw five police vehicles and about six police officers at a location on Pakuranga Road, not far from the intersection with The Link, at about 10.30am today.

“There were so many police cars that I wondered if they were at more than one property.

“It seemed like a controlled operation.”

The eyewitness says she saw a woman at the scene who was handcuffed and being placed into a police vehicle.
