After the disappointment of the cancellation of the 2020 championships, Saint Kentigern College tennis teams were looking forward to competing this year at the NZSS Tennis Championships at Scarbro Tennis Centre in Auckland.

Numbers were low this year and Saint Kentigern was the only school with a team in each division – girls, boys and mixed.

In perfect conditions all week the mixed team had some great games but it was a tough competition and placed 4th overall

The girls team had a very close game with St Margaret’s College (Christchurch) drawing in games and sets.

Going into their game against Queen Margaret College (Wellington), they needed an outright win to confirm the title.

The girls were up 3-1 after the singles, then played some gutsy doubles to win both and claim the title.

The boys were title holders from 2018 and 2019 so were favourites and top seeds from the beginning.

On the way to the title the boys beat teams from Westlake Boys High, Kings College and Christs College 6-0 and New Plymouth Boys 5-1 with the final match against Wellington College 5-1.
