Seven candidates contesting the Botany by-election

The number of people contesting the Botany by-election next month has grown to seven after three last-minute candidate nominations were entered on deadline day.

Nominations closed at midday on December 22.

Mark Johnson (Labour), Malcolm Page (Independent), Julie Patterson (Independent), Ailian Su (Independent), Nivedita Sharma Vij (Independent), Mike Turinsky (Practical not Political), and Kuan Cheong Yap (Independent) are all vying for the Howick Local Board, Botany subdivision, seat that was vacated by newly-sworn in member Lucy Schwaner in November.

Three of the seven candidates ran in the October election. The by-election is expected to cost up to $104,000.
