Police respond to dispute over cockle collection

Police attended an incident on 22 August, 2017 at Shelly Beach Parade between an honorary fisheries officer and a member of the public.

Inspector Wendy Spiller of Counties Manukau Police said the fisheries officer was speaking to a man regarding the legal limit of cockles that were able to be gathered at the location and a minor disagreement occurred.

Police spoke to both parties and the offender was given a warning and no further action is required.

This was a minor incident and no charges were laid and no one was injured.
