Police have publicly released the name of the man who died in a hit-and-run incident in the west Auckland suburb of Henderson on the weekend.
Dion Raymond Kainamu, 58, died after being critically injured on Tango Place in the early hours of November 16.
“Police extend our sympathies to Mr Kainamu’s family for their loss at this very difficult time,” police say.
Detective senior sergeant Ryan Bunting, of Waitematā West Police’s criminal investigation branch, says it’s alleged a vehicle struck Kainamu and left the scene.
Last Sunday police arrested a woman at a west Auckland address.
“A 47-year-old Henderson woman is currently facing charges of failing to stop or ascertain injury, as well as two counts of driving while disqualified,” Bunting says.
“We are not seeking anyone else in connection with this matter.”
A post-mortem was carried out on Monday, and the investigation is continuing into the series of events that led to Kainamu’s death.
Police thank members of the public for their assistance with enquiries to date.
The woman appeared in the Waitākere District Court on Monday and is scheduled to reappear on December 18.
