Police have released the name of the person found dead inside a burnt-out car in east Auckland last Saturday night.

The body of Kunal Khera, 26, of Manukau, was found inside the badly damaged vehicle in the car park of Barry Curtis Park in Flat Bush on March 6.

Counties Manukau Police detective senior sergeant Natalie Nelson says police have been in contact with Khera’s family in India and are supporting them “as best we can”.

“Our deepest thoughts and sympathies are with them at this difficult time,” Nelson says.

She says police are still treating Khera’s death as unexplained.

Investigators are continuing to make inquiries into the circumstances surrounding Khera’s death.
