Counties Manukau Police say they arrested two people and seized a shotgun following a search warrant at a property early this Tuesday morning.

One of the pair is a teen who was bitten by a police dog after fleeing the scene, say police.

Detective inspector Shaun Vickers, of Counties Manukau Police CIB, says the Counties Manukau Gang Disruption Unit executed a warrant at a Lincoln Road address in Manurewa around 6am as part of an ongoing investigation, supported by the Armed Offenders Squad.

“While police were in the process of approaching the address, a male was seen fleeing the rear of the property in possession of a firearm,” Vickers says.

The target of the warrant, a 35-year-old man, was taken into custody at the address.

A police dog tracked his associate, the 16-year-old, who fled to a nearby property, where he was arrested after receiving a dog-bite injury.

He was taken to hospital for treatment of minor wounds, police say.

Officers have confirmed a shotgun was located discarded in the nearby area.

“The incident is contained, and taking another firearm out of circulation is a great outcome for our community,” Vickers says.

Charges are expected to be laid in due course, police add.
