Police say they have stood down cordons at Aotea Square in Auckland CBD, after a bag was found unattended earlier this morning.
The Police Specialist Search Group has examined the bag and there is no further cause for concern, police say.
“People are free to go about their business. Police appreciate the public’s cooperation this morning.”
Earlier, police were attending Aotea Square this morning, August 12, after a bag was left unattended.
Building security staff at the nearby Aotea Centre reported the incident to police just before 9am.
Staff working in the building made the decision to self-evacuate the building.
Police cleared part of Aotea Square and asked the public to stay away while the matter was resolved.
“Police are taking a precautionary approach with this matter,” inspector Peter Raynes said earlier.
“We have made this decision with the public’s safety front of mind.”
Raynes said the Police Specialist Search Group was being deployed to the scene to inspect the bag.
“We are working to clear the area as quickly and as safely as possible.”
