A 57-year-old man has died after a serious crash in Otara.
Inspector Shawn Rutene said police noticed a male driving erratically shortly before 2:30pm.
Police initiated a pursuit and the driver failed to stop.
A short time later, the vehicle crashed into a building at the intersection of Ormiston Rd and Preston Rd.
Earlier reports that an elderly man was driving were incorrect.
The male driver died at the scene.
Inspector Rutene said there is a possibility the driver suffered a medical event, but it’s too early to say for sure.
No one else was injured in the crash and both roads are currently open.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
