Based on today’s progress results voting numbers, the make-up of the new Howick Local Board for the next three years will look very different to the last one.
The previous board’s chairperson, Damian Light, is topping the polls in its Botany subdivision with 3,280 votes.
Mike Turinsky is in second place on 3,169. In third place is ACT Local candidate Ali Dahche with 1,401 votes.
The Botany subdivision has two elected members on the board so unless the numbers change dramatically, Light and Turinsky look set to be elected.
In a statement shared on social media this afternoon, Light thanked locals for their confidence in him.
Light, who also stood for a Howick ward seat on Auckland Council’s governing body, congratulated Bo Burns and Maurice Williamson for being elected as the ward’s two councillors and offered his commiserations to all the unsuccessful candidates.
“Thank you to everyone who voted for me, who helped my campaign – your support means a lot, regardless of the outcome.
“I’m thrilled to be back on the local board. I’ve really enjoyed the past three years and we’ve achieved a lot.
“But there’s more to do. We’re opening a library in Ormiston in January, with more progress on the Flat Bush facilities under way.
“We need to tackle our gaps in playgrounds and sports fields, while coping with massive budget shortfalls.
“We’ll be taking on more responsibilities for transport, while housing intensification looms over the city.
“It’s great to see the Howick Local Board will benefit from the experience of returning members, as well as from some fresh new faces.
“Congratulations to all the new and returning members.”

In the Howick subdivision, which has three elected members, Bo Burns is currently in first place with 5,936 votes.
John Spiller is second with 4,769 votes and Adele White is third with 4,752 votes.
Burns is also currently topping the voting for the two Howick ward seats on Auckland Council’s governing body ahead of incumbent councillor Maurice Williamson.
The local board’s Pakuranga subdivision has three elected members.
In first place, based on the current progress results, is Bruce Kendall with 4,266 votes.
Just behind him is Katrina Bungard on 4,005 votes. In third place is newcomer Jack Collins, who has 3,065 votes.

In the Flat Bush subdivision, which has three elected members, newcomer Kai Zeng is currently in first place with 2,085 votes.
Zeng’s running mate on the Healthy and Happy political ticket, Peter Young, is in second place with 2,079 votes.
Newcomer Krish Naidu is third with 1,917 votes.
In fourth place is David Collings, who represented the Pakuranga subdivision on the previous board, and is the only one of its members to not be re-elected this year based on the current progress voting results.
