Man arrested following car park assault on East Tamaki Road

At approximately 3am last Saturday, a46-year-old man was waiting in his car at the Gull Service Station on East Tamaki Road to collect newspapers which were to be delivered later that morning when two offenders opened the door and began to viciously attack him. Photo supplied

Counties Manukau Police have arrested and charged a man in relation to the serious assault which occurred on East Tamaki Road last Saturday, August 26.

The violent incident occurred in the car park outside the Gull Service Station. 

This evening, police have charged a 20-year-old man with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to the incident.

He has also been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery.

These charges relate to an incident three days prior at a local takeaway store and another incident earlier this week at the Ormiston Z Service Station. 

The man is being held in custody, due to appear in the Manukau District Court tomorrow morning.

The second offender remains outstanding and police are yet to identify him.

The victim remains in hospital and is receiving ongoing support while he recovers.
