The Macleans College 1st XV have continued their winning start to the 1B season with a hard-fought 31-18 victory over Pakuranga College.

Macleans scored early in the match on May 17 through a well taken try to Caelan White, but Pakuranga struck back quickly to cut the lead to just two points.

It was a pattern that was repeated through the game with neither team able to fully gain ascendancy for a prolonged period.

Macleans’ Jackson Steele had three conversions to add to his team’s scoreline.

White added a second try in the first half before Jacob Ely and Rikus Botha scored second-half tries to gain the bonus point win in a game that was closer than the final score indicates.

Scorers: Caelan White (2), Jacob Ely (2), Rikus Botha tries. Jackson Steele (3) conversions.

After three consecutive away victories, Macleans have their first home game of the year when they host Onehunga High School on the school turf at 12pm on Saturday, May 24.
