Local teacher crowned Miss Auckland

There’s a new Miss Auckland — and she’s one of our very own.

Natasha Unkovich, 23, was crowned the winner at a ceremony held at the Bruce Mason Centre last Saturday after weeks of fundraising and campaigning for votes.

Miss Unkovich, who also won the People’s Choice award, said the win was a “total surprise”.

“There was definitely nerves…I went in with no expectations and it was just nice to be able to showcase everything we’d been working on.”

The Bucklands Beach Intermediate teacher said some of the highlights of the journey were getting involved with the Ronald McDonald House charity and being able to share her journey with her students.

Miss Unkovich will now go onto compete in Miss World New Zealand which takes place around the middle of next year — but preparations begin early on in February.
