Wayne Huang, the Rear Commodore (Power) at Bucklands Beach Yacht Club, has been awarded a Yachting New Zealand Service Award.
It is the first time an Asian-born winner has been awarded honour.
The award will be presented at the 2021 Yachting Excellence Awards on Friday November 12 at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. The awards evening will feature the presentation of awards as well as a gala dinner.
The Yachting Excellence Awards recognise excellence in sailing, from Optimists through to offshore boats.
“This country has produced and continues to produce, some outstanding sailors who have achieved some amazing feats on the world stage.,” Yachting NZ said.
“The annual Yachting Excellence Awards are an opportunity to recognise achievements at local and club level and there are many who do so much to make these places special.”
“It is a great honour for me to have the chance to serve as Rear Commodore (Power) at BBYC to help wider community access, enjoy and success on water,” Huang said.
