A Pakuranga home was engulfed in flames when a fire broke out on Saturday evening.

A Pakuranga home has been destroyed after a fire ripped through the property on the weekend.

A neighbour on Archmillen Avenue said she called emergency services after smelling smoke and seeing flames through the house’s window.

She says by the time she got to the top of the communal driveway, the house was engulfed in flames.

Four fire appliances responded to the incident.

She says loud noises could be heard as the deck and roof of the house caved in.

“The entire house was engulfed in flames… If the fire brigade had showed up any later I think surrounding houses would have caught fire as well,” she says.

She says if it hadn’t been for large trees separating the two houses, the fire would have spread to her own property.

Archmillen Avenue was blocked off for a few hours following the blaze, and the house is still cordoned off.

An investigation into what caused the fire is still underway.

The deck and roof of the home caved in during the blaze.
