Howick was buzzing at the weekend with so many events and activities on to mark the district’s 175th anniversary.

The Howick Beach Picnic, commemorating the Fencibles’ and their families landing at the beach in November 1847, was extremely popular with youngsters trying out numerous activities on the water and on land. Formalities were conducted outside the Howick Coastguard facilities.

Later in the day a 175th plaque was unveiled at Fencible Walk on Picton Street and there was a civic church service at All Saints Anglican Church.

Meanwhile, several photographers from the Howick Photographic Society [a selection of there photos are included below] were out and about taking shots, as was Times photographer Wayne Martin.

And the weather turned out perfect!
