A public meeting in east Auckland will feature speakers on subjects including the workings of Fire and Emergency NZ and the history of trams.

Grey Power Howick Pakuranga and Districts Association will host the meeting at Howick’s St Andrews Presbyterian Church on March 22.

Association president Peter Bankers says it starts at 1pm with five minutes of Grey Power business followed by a talk from Howick fire station officer John Searle.

Searle will discuss, among other things, “how all your hard-earned fire insurance levies are spent”, Bankers says.

A refreshment break runs from 1.45-2pm, followed by a talk from 2-3pm by the Museum of Transport and Technology’s (MOTAT) James Duncan on ‘our golden history of trams’.

“I’ve heard great reviews of the first in a series of three, making this look like it could be an interesting trilogy,” Bankers says.

The public meeting ends at 3pm. It’s at St Andrews Presbyterian Church, 11 Vincent Street, Howick. All are welcome and entry is free.
