The combined churches Easter Sunrise Service is back for another year.

The Easter Sunrise Service has been held every year since 1996 starting off with a handful of churches.

This year the service will have most of the churches in the Howick ward taking part, gathering on Stockade Hill where many important early church and civic events were held.

The public service will begin at 6.30am on Easter Sunday April 21 and welcomes anyone who wishes to attend.

With such panoramic views of the gulf and the community, there’s no better place to welcome Easter Day, celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and to pray for our East Auckland community.

Over the years big crowds have gathered for this early morning event with leadership of the 40 minute service shared around local church leaders.

This year, St Columba Presbyterian’s new minister, Rev Chris Barnard, will share prayers, with Scripture by Becca Green, pastor from Elim Christian Centre and Grace Sylvester from All Saints Anglican.

Other participation will be by Pastor Peter Morton (River Christian Church),  Pastor Phil Sproull (Howick Community Church), and Rev Dr Richard Waugh (East City Wesleyan) who has coordinated the event since 1996.
