Howick Tennis Club’s midweek ladies were joined by players from Sunnyhills and Pakuranga in a fun charity tournament to support Foster Hope.

Entry to the tournament was either a book or a comforting gift – something a child going into foster care could take with them to be cheered by and to call their own.

Foster Hope is an organisation made up of volunteers who provide practical support based on their belief that every child in care deserves to know that their community cares about them.

Many children arrive at their new placement in foster care with little more than the clothes on their backs, maybe in the middle of the night with a few belongings in a black plastic bag.

Foster Hope demonstrates care by providing each child going into care with a backpack of personal items bringing a little hope into what is a stressful time in their lives.
