An east Auckland rest home is keen to get into the festive spirit to bring some joy to its residents.

The caring staff at Howick Baptist Healthcare’s Union Road facility put in a major effort decorating its Seymour community with multiple colourful Christmas trees, a blow-up Santa Claus, glittering reindeer, angel figurines and wall ornaments, fairy lights, and even a mailbox to send letters to Santa.

Staff member Janice Phillips says the facility’s staff members “put these decorations up every Christmas to make our residents happier and lift up their mood in this festive season”.

“We have been doing this since 2016,” she says.

She and her colleagues want people to know that “aged care is not boring and we can make a difference to their lives by creating a bright and colourful world through these decorations”.
