A family on Ridge Road in Howick had a close call last night after a car veered off the road and smashed through their fence, stopping just short of the house.

A 17-year-old female driver drove through two fences and struck two other vehicles shortly before 11pm, police said, before coming to a stop in the front yard of a Ridge Road property.

It is not known if the two struck vehicles were parked or driving.

A police spokeswoman told the Times that the teenager will be charged with drink driving.

In the meantime, her licence has been suspended for 28 days.

The Times understands the teenage driver attends a local high school.

Police and the Fire Service attended the incident and no one is believed to have been injured.

This comes after a car veered off Redoubt Road in Flat Bush on November 20 and travelled 10 metres across a paddock before colliding with the side of a two-storey brick house.

The 19-year-old passenger of the car, Alexandra Van Den Bogaart, died at the scene after 15 minutes of CPR treatment.

Redoubt Road residents are calling for safety measures following the fatal crash.

The female driver – also 19 – was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

Police say the two people who were in the house at the time were not injured.
