Darren Bazeley was last year appointed by New Zealand Football as All Whites assistant coach and men’s U-20 head coach.

Fencibles United have announced Darren Bazeley as the new technical director at Fencible United, in a part-time role alongside his New Zealand Football (NZF) roles.

Bazeley has an extensive footballing background both as a player and a coach and he was lured back to New Zealand from his professional coaching role at the Newcastle Jets to take up roles with NZF as All Whites assistant coach and head coach of the men’s U20.

Prior to his Newcastle position he was the assistant coach at the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer.

Bazeley has been involved in 72 New Zealand international games, coached at five World Cups with the U17 and U20 national teams and he holds a UEFA A Licence.

Also in his playing career he played for Watford and Wolves in England.

As part of the first steps, Bazeley will be working closely with the board and Martin Rodwell (Fencibles United’s new director of football) to understand the key drivers in the club’s transformation.

Vice chairman Ian Davies (Taffy) said, “He will then lead the delivery of these pivotal areas through the club.

“We are very fortunate to have obtained such a high level of football experience and expertise with Darren.

“The work/direction he will set out for the club will come through at all the levels at the club, from our juniors to the senior 1st team.

“The club is in a very exciting place at the moment and has a buzz about it which hasn’t been seen for a while. The future is very bright at Fencibles United for this community-based club.”
