Air Force to fly over east Auckland

The Royal New Zealand Air Force will be celebrating their 85th anniversary through the skies this weekend.

The Avenger will be leading two T06C Texan II aircraft and the Spitfire all over Auckland this Saturday (April 9).

The purpose of the Heritage Flight is to “commemorate and sustain the memory of NZ’s military aviation heritage, and to remind New Zealanders, friends and allies of our past shared sacrifice and continued commitment to global security”.

The flight commander, squadron leader Michael Williams, says the unit hopes to bring a sense of pride, respect and esprit-de-corps to their flying displays, while honouring those who originally flew these aircraft in World War II.

The locations listed below is where the Air Force Heritage Flight will be out east tomorrow:

  3. 1102 Whitford (town centre)
  4. 1104 Howick (The Esplanade)
  5. 1407 Mission Bay (waterfront)
  6. 1408 Achilles Point (waterfront)
  7. 1408 Musick Point
  8. 1410 Beachlands (waterfront)
  9. 1411 Omana Beach (waterfront)
  10. 1411 Maraetai (waterfront)
  11. 1413 Kawakawa Bay (waterfront)
