From November, 2025, the new Business Investor Visa (BIV) will bring a wave of international buyers to New Zealand’s business market.
Here’s the deal: Offshore investors who purchase and actively run an existing, established Kiwi business can fast-track residency. Options include:
- NZ$2 million investment = residency in 12 months.
- NZ$1 million investment = residency in three years.
To qualify, the business must employ at least five staff and meet ongoing performance criteria. That makes well-run, profitable businesses especially attractive.
What does this mean for sellers? More demand, stronger competition, and often higher prices.
International investors don’t just buy a business; they buy security, a pathway to residency, and a future in New Zealand.
