Building and Construction Minister Chris Penk has visited east Auckland to cut the ribbon on a new residential housing development.
Penk was joined by local National Party List MP Nancy Lu during his tour of the MJ Home development in Farm Cove’s Galloway Crescent.
It’s comprised of eight standalone brick and tile units featuring spacious three-bedroom houses, each of which is equipped with a garage.
MJ Home is a Kiwi-owned company created with the aim of helping to ease New Zealand’s housing crisis “by providing long-term rentals to those looking for a place to call home”.
“We first started with six high-quality townhouses in Flat Bush and now have grown to expand to offer our beautiful homes across many suburbs,” the company says.
“When you rent with MJ Home, you’re guaranteed not only a high-quality home, but you can be sure it meets the Healthy Home Standards set by the Government.
“In the past three years we’ve created over 150 units, making it at least 50 units per year becoming available to renters.”

MJ Home says it’s revitalising the Kiwi housing market with elegant, adaptable rentals.
Its team crafts each property to embrace modern living, ensuring they become homes that blend style with practicality.
“By prioritising space efficiency and design, we deliver residences that embody the vibrant spirit of New Zealand life.
“We also rejuvenate properties that don’t meet living standards, transforming them into healthy, habitable homes.
“With quality materials and thorough inspections, we ensure these homes surpass the Healthy Home Standards, contributing to the solution of New Zealand’s housing crisis.
“Our commitment is to maintain these standards, fulfilling our promise of excellence and comfort in every MJ Home.”

Penk says he attended the Farm Cove development’s recent opening because it represents an important step forward in addressing New Zealand’s housing challenges.
“Housing activity, particularly in the build-to-rent sector, delivers more diverse, long-term rental options for Kiwis,” he says.
“Encouraging overseas investment by freeing up the rules in this space supports increased supply, drives innovation and helps meet growing demand more quickly.
“This approach helps address Auckland’s chronic shortage of housing while also boosting construction activity and creating jobs.”

And MJ Home was “delighted” to have Penk officially open its new Farm Cove development.
“As Minister for Building and Construction and Minister for Land Information, he’s been instrumental in advancing reforms, from streamlining consenting processes to enabling trusted professionals to self-certify residential builds, that are making modern housing developments like ours more achievable for Kiwi families,” the company says.
“His visit highlighted the impact of recent legislative changes allowing faster approvals and improved efficiency in the building sector, exactly the kind of support that made this development possible.
“We’re proud these homes set a benchmark for quality, while aligning with national goals to accelerate housing delivery and affordability.”
