Musically minded east Auckland school pupils are ready to bring the gritty realism of a New York City neighbourhood to life on stage.
Sancta Maria College’s production of Lin Manuel-Miranda’s stage musical In the Heights plays at Due Drop Event Centre’s Four Winds Theatre in Manukau at 7pm from May 6-9.
Miranda is the award-winning songwriter, filmmaker and actor behind the smash hit Broadway musical Hamilton.
One of the cast members of the Sancta Maria College production of In the Heights, Jake Price, says it’s a “vibrant and powerful musical that explores the themes of identity, culture, and that dreams shape us”.
“That’s something we relate to at Sancta Maria College.
“The musical is set in New York City’s Washington Heights and follows a diverse group of characters as they navigate love, ambition, hardship, and hope.
“With its hip-hop dances, funky Latin inspired music and heartfelt storytelling, this production offers something meaningful, as well as a fun night out to our younger audiences and families.”
Jake says the cast has been working tirelessly for several months to bring the performance to life.
Tickets cost $29.70 for adults, $19.45 for students, and $10.25 for children.
