An east Auckland school choir has sung their way to success at a prestigious performance competition.
The talented members of the Botany Downs School Choir participated in the recent The Kids Sing Festival, staged at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell.
Teacher Rachel Ryan says following three terms of rehearsals the choir, which is comprised of 33 pupils, delivered a polished performance and received a prestigious Gold Award.
One of their featured pieces was Wakabaoti long Saenataoni, a traditional song from the Solomon Islands.

“The Bua family – Miriam, Jared, and Nathan – provided support by preparing costumes, instruments, and the music score for this performance.
“Musical support was also provided by Mingfei Wang and Rafa Zhao.
“The school acknowledges the continued backing of Mrs Vicki Parkins, principal, and the school leadership team, for their support of the arts at Botany Downs School.
“Special recognition needs to be given to Miss Iris Liu, who led the choir.
“Iris also received the overall ‘Conductor’ award.
“The Gold Award reflects the collective preparation and execution by all involved.
“A special thanks also to all of the whānau who supported the choir on the night.”
