The Village market has been the heart and soul of Saturday morning life in Howick for many years. It attracts locals and visitors from far and wide who want to buy the freshest fruit & vegetables, the tastiest baked goods or beautiful handmade gifts. Our community of friendly stallholders ensure the market offers a range of quality fare every weekend.

 

As our Market Manager, you will be responsible for the smooth organisation and safe operation of our Saturday morning market. You will oversee the planning, set up and pack down of the market and be available to answer any queries from stallholders or visitors on market day. With a keen eye for Health & Safety, you will ensure the Health & Safety plan is followed and any incidents reported as required.

Outside of market day, you will be working on the administration as required, which will include banking, invoicing, stallholder enquiries and planning for future markets.

You will be very personable and approachable with excellent verbal and written communication skills. An eye for detail is key as you will be processing invoice payments from stallholders, reconciling the accounts receivable register and processing any credits as required. 

Experience in running events is advantageous, such as school galas or fundraising events, an understanding of how events operate and the importance of being highly organized is crucial. 

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have previous experience running events 
  • Be a confident and clear written and verbal communicator
  • Enjoy building relationships and connections with local businesses
  • Have some experience dealing with Accounts Receivable
  • Be highly organized and have a good eye for detail

This role is for a part time contractor (12 hours per week), where 8 hours are worked on Saturdays at the market between 6.00am and 2.00pm. This includes market set up and pack down. The other 4 hours can be worked away from the Howick Village Association Office (Howick Based) if required.
